The Delacour's langur is an endemic primate found only in Vietnam. It is named after the French-American ornithologist Jean Théodore Delacour, who discovered it in 1903. The IUCN Red Book classifies it as "extinct," but in the late 1980s, people spotted it again in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.
Human threats have pushed this rare species to the brink of extinction. Only four of the 16 isolated populations recorded more than 30 years ago remain. Now, Vietnam (and the world) has only about 300 Delacour langurs, of which Van Long Nature Reserve accounts for the majority, thanks to its active rescue and conservation activities.
