‘War does not determine who is right, only who is left’ - Bertrand Russel A remarkable Vietnam tour for veterans or those who wish to learn more about the history of the Vietnam war. Our tour will take you back to the destinations where some of the most devastating battles took place. Here, you will understand more than ever a saying ‘No soldier ever really survives a war’ of Audie Murphy who was one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II. Of course, old battlefields are not everything you visit on the tour. You will also witness the charms of nature and culture making this small country one of Southeast Asia’s most popular destinations.
Upon arrival, you will meet your local guide and travel by car to your hotel for check-in. Enjoy the laid-back old streets and explore Hanoi on your own. In the evening, have dinner with Mr. Chuck Searcy, a veteran of the Vietnam War. He is now a representative of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, co-chair of the NGO Agent Orange Working Group in Vietnam. You'll have time to ask questions and hear about his experiences.
Start your day by a visit to the John McCain Monument on Truc Bach Lake and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Our tour continues to Huu Tiep Lake which is home to the wreckage of a B-52 bomber shot down on 27th December 1972, shortly before the war ended, and Hoa Lo Prison where Mr. McCain spent 5.5 years in captivity as a POW in North Vietnam.
In the afternoon, you will have 2-hour meeting with a veteran to have a deeper look into the war. Overnight at your hotel in Hanoi.
Drive to the countryside to meet up with a Vietnamese veteran and visit his tea plantation. Take a walk or ride your bike around the village in the afternoon to explore local culture, talk to locals, learn to pick tea, make a conical hat and unshell the rice by a simple machine. Relax with a fresh mint lemon juice while soaking your feet in warm water with herb after your cycling session.
End up your day with a boat trip on the Da River to enjoy the breathtaking landscapes and explore the local life along the riverside before returning to Hanoi.
Travel to Ha Long Bay and embark on one of the most luxurious cruises on the Bay. There, you can witness more than 1,900 rock islands emerging from the beautiful water to know why it is declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn about the local life on the water, join a cooking class with the chief, and enjoy excellent meals with fresh seafood caught from the Bay.
Early in the morning and depending on the season, you will wake up to enjoy sunrise over the aquamarine waters of the bay. Then the cruise will tour around the bay until you disembark at the end of the morning. After that, you will then return to Hanoi You will disembark at the end of the morning and head back to the airport for the flight to Quang Binh.
In the morning, you'll be picked up from your hotel to travel to 20 Victoria Road (20 Quyet Thang Road) where a mystery typical lod line of Truong Son Road system was. We'll visit Tra Ang Bridge. Tra Ang Stream, Tam Co cave where we'll burn incense to pay a tribute to eight young ladies who permanently left this life at young age. During the American War, the area was a target of fierce aerial bombardments of the American to stop the northern reinforcement to the southern front-line and marked the terrible bloodshed of the volunteer youth during their attempt to keep the transport route clear. We will continue to explore the majestic Paradise Cave before having lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, follow our day to Chay Lap Village and Xa Phong Cave. Embark the boat trip to go along 2 kilometers on Chay river to get to Tram Me village and Ruou cave. We'll also pass historical places that were heavily devastated by bombardments such as Phong Nha Cave, Nguyen Van Troi pier, and Xuan Son pier.
In the morning, we will be picked up by the local tour guide and head to the demilitarized zone (DMZ). We will stop on road to see some of the famous DMZ sights, such as the Vinh Moc tunnel, a strategic site that was the target of endless bombing during the Vietnam War. We will descend into this underground village, which was dug by the population who occupied it for two years, to explore a system of three-floor tunnels consisting of small cells, kitchens, toilets, wells, and a hospital where seventeen children were born. We will then visit the famous Hien Luong Bridge, Doc Mieu Base, Quang Tri Citadel, and Khe Sanh Combat Base. Drive to Hue where is the next destination in our journey.
Today we visit Hue city. We will drive to a peaceful village to see the tile-roofed Thanh Toan Bridge. Spend some time winding around the local market nearby before we head to the majestic Imperial Citadel of Hue. After that, you will attend one paper-flower workshop to learn how to make flowers from paper. Have lunch here then continue our journey to Minh Mang Tomb. This construction began in 1840 during the reign of Minh Mang and was completed by Emperor Thieu Tri, who succeeded him on the throne. Walk on the beautiful Thien Mu Pagoda that is unofficial symbol of the city.
You will meet your guide and drive toward Hoi An. On the way, we will stop at Happy Valley, NVA stronghold used for staging attacks on Da Nang, usually with 122mm rockets. Continue drive to Hill 55 known as Camp Muir. Our next stop is the New Liberty Bridge (near the old Liberty Bridge). The Liberty Bridge was built to enable the Marines to move men and material across the Song Thu Bon south to An Hoa Combat Base or to a jump off point for Operations to be conducted on Go Noi Island. The bridge was constantly under attack and was destroyed several times, either by VC or nature. The only thing that remains of this structure are several pylons that project out of the water. Our last stop is the An Hoa Combat Base. The base is now just a ruin but you still the runway is still there.
Today you have your own time at leisure to discover the gorgeous Hoi An.
This morning you are free at leisure. In the midafternoon, we will visit Hoian Old Quarter, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site for its well-preserved ancient streets and houses. The town features a harmony of Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese and French architecture elements, which can be seen from the famous Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple and Tan Ky trading house. Watch a folklore show in one of the old houses then drive toward Cam Thanh countryside where we will embark on a boat to cruise on Thu Bon River. Try a fun bamboo basket ride in to the mangrove forest and try to maneuver the boat yourself. Have lunch with local dishes that are carefully prepared by a fishermen at his house.
Free at leisure to explore the ancient town or enjoy the beach until the good time to transfer to the airport for your outbound flight.

From the moment we first made contact with Exotic Voyages the staff was attentive with great communication and execution! Lacey, our sales rep, listened to exactly what we wanted out of our vacation and put together the perfect plan for our timeframe. She made sure every detail was taken care of in advance – all we had to do then was show up. And along our custom journey each guide was unique and top-notch. I could give an example of each of them making small adjustments based on our conversations of stops to add to show us things based on our questions and interests, and it felt like the activities were tailored exactly to us. We had the most amazing food experience on our entire trip, and much of that was thanks to our guides. We told them our restrictions (mainly that we didn’t have any and wanted to eat what was local and recommended), and the most amazing food showed up in front of us each time. As any traveler knows hiccups happen on every trip, and while this one was no exception the local and office staff made sure the issue was resolved and other than a few unsure minutes in the moment everything worked out and it all becomes part of the story of our amazing trip. Based on our experience from start to finish I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Exotic Voyages to anyone looking to have their dream vacation tailored to their schedule – it was a seamless experience worth every penny and we can’t wait to book again ourselves!

After much online research we opted for a 12 day personal tour of Vietnam offered by Exotic Voyages. Our travel coordinator was Hoa Tran and we could not have been more pleased. ...our trip included Hanoi, Mai Chau, Han La Bay, Hoi An, Saigon and Mekong Delta. We let Hoa know what type of travelers we were and what we would like to see and do; she took it from there and arranged a wonderful trip for us. Her personal recommendations/suggestions made our trip even more special. We has an opportunity to take cooking classes, meet several local families and truly experience Vietnamese culture. Our entire trip was arranged online and any questions/concerns were answered promptly. Our hotels were lovely, tours fun and exciting and our guides/drivers knowledgeable and professional. I highly recommend paying a little extra for the Visa expediting upon arrival...this made our entry smooth and fast. We especially loved the cruise of Han La Bay overnight from Heritage Cruise Lines and the Vietnam By Scooters Food Tour in Saigon. Not to be missed. Thank you Exotic Voyages, we look foward to our next journey to South East Asia.

Tran Thuy (Judy), Exotic Voyages organized our 7-week tour of Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos & Cambodia. She was so attentive to our every request. She followed our stated budget, made many changes to our itinerary (5 drafts) before issuing a detailed itinerary with all important details, contacts, times etc. etc. Even after we paid the full payment, she was quick to respond to any concerns we had. In addition, when we arrived at each destination, we received a letter indicating what times we would be picked up for various tours or to go to the airport. Evaluations were done throughout the journey and we were always met by someone at least 15 minutes prior to our pick-up time. It was so comforting to be met at the airport in-spite of numerous airplane delays. The guides all expressed how happy they were to work for Exotic Voyages. Special mention to some of the outstanding guides - Tukta in Thailand (did so many extra things for us - above and beyond her duties - very caring and made accommodations for us as needed); Mr. Thong in Lao, Mr. Buu, Hoi An, Sherry in Kaula Lumpur, Miss Pitsamai Lurthoo in Thailand. All the drivers were simply outstanding - always calm in-spite of difficult traffic conditions. We took 3 cooking sessions and they not only provided us with great food and how to prepare it but provided us with an opportunity to get to know the day to day experiences of the locals. To us this is what travel is all about - getting to know the locals. This was a journey of a lifetime. We would recommend Exotic Voyages highly and are very grateful to Thuy and the whole team for their efforts. We were provided with 24/7 emergency contacts for each country - we contact Mr. Mark in Thailand and he was so calm and reassuring in sorting out our problem.
