In January this year, TravelSupermarket revealed a list of the world’s healthiest cities by taking into account the number of parks, fitness centers, gyms, yoga studios, pilates studios in each city, along with vegan options restaurants, health food shops, sunlight hours and how much it costs to stay for a night.

While Paris was named the healthiest overall, Chiang Mai came into the second. The rose of northern Thailand has 273 spa centers (almost seven spas per km squared), approximately 2,512 hours of sunlight a year, and 307 vegan option restaurants for locals and visitors. Chiang Mai now makes it has never been easier to incorporate a healthy lifestyle into your holiday.

Here is a list of the best vegetarian restaurants in Chiang Mai that you can continue your everyday vegan diet or start a Meat-free Monday to improve your health and the health of our planet.

1. Anantara Chiang Mai Resort

In the annual vegetarian festival, known locally as Tesagan Jae, Anantara’s chef creates exclusive set menus as well as delectable A la carte dishes, comprising of favorite vegetarian Thai, Indian, and Nikkei culinary which use a variety of vegetables. This 10-day festival takes place in October, during the ninth lunar month. So, if you are vegetarian or vegan, this is the best time to visit Chiang Mai.

2. Amrita Garden (Temporarily closed)

Healthy, organic, fresh, and delicious options pack in the menu making it also a good choice for meat-eaters to clean their palate after eating a whole week of Thai cuisine. MSG, chemical preservatives, freezer, and microwave aren’t allowed to use in Amrita to make sure their every meal is hearty vegan.

3. Ohkajhu Organic Farm

If you like veggie, this place is a must-visit to cut off your meat from your diet. It is a farm to table restaurant offering a wide range of salad options. You can walk to their hydroponic garden where the vegetables go into your dishes. Ohkajhu has 2 branches in Chiang Mai. Although both of them often have a queue, their tasty food is worth the effort. You can choose to create your own salad from their huge option of ingredients and dressings. The only criticism is that most of their dishes come in big size.

4. Favola at Le Meridien

The staff provides a world-class experience. The food is presented with the utmost attention to detail. Most dishes can be adjusted so there is plenty of vegetarian options for you to sample. Prices are a bit higher, not surprising as Favola is the restaurant of the 5-star hotel Le Meridien.

5. Vegan Heaven

One thing for sure, Vegan Heaven knows how to do vegetarian. It is Chiang Mai’s first entirely vegan restaurant that offers 100% vegan menu including both Thai and Western cuisine. You can have all the Thai dishes you love without the fish sauce that often has in every Thai recipe. Being amazed by a variety of tasting dishes they offer, it’s definitely heaven for the vegan. Those are non-vegans would be happy to dine too. Then, you will realize that there is a life without meat.

6. Reform Kafé (Temporarily closed)

Everything from the decor, ambiance to the service and food seems to be kept to the highest standard they could manage. Every meal is a pleasant surprise, high quality, beautiful presentation, and excellent taste. Service is a bit slow but don’t let that put you off. After all, you are on holiday, so just relax and enjoy.

7. La Terrasse

La Terrasse is a Parisian inspired French bistro in the heart of Chiang Mai

Opened in 2009, La Terrasse is a Parisian inspired French bistro in the heart of Chiang Mai. Although not strictly a vegetarian restaurant, its vegetarian dishes are so good that it’s always one of the best choices you’d ever need. You can sit outside on the terrace looking over a quiet garden or inside for Jazz music atmosphere in the background.

“La Terrasse” is also a Wine Bar. The restaurant serves a large choice of fine wines and exclusively fresh products in a traditional French style.

8. Alice's Restaurant (Temporarily closed)

Expect to pay more than you’re used to in Thailand because Alice’s food is on another level.
