Sinharaja is an important nature reserve site in south-western Sri Lanka. It is home to over 50% of the country’s endemic species of butterflies and mammals, along with many other kinds of rare reptiles, amphibians and insects. This tropical rainforest was inscribed a UNESCO Natural World Heritate Site in 1988, a Biodiversity Hotspot and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve as designated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Our recommended way to explore Sinharaja is going on a recognized tour when you will be led to visit the most interesting corners and spot herds of birds, elephants, leopards on site.
