A beautiful town located in Choekor Valley overlooking the magnificent panoramic view of lush tree-covered mountains. The valley is considered to be one of the most beautiful in all Bhutan, and even commonly referred to as "Little Switzerland. Jakar is known as a bastion of Vajrayana Buddhism, especially the Nyingma tradition, home to many monasteries and sacred sites. The most magnificent shrine is Jakar Dzong whose name refers to the “Castle of the White Bird”. The cluster of villages below the dzong, which are collectively known as Jakar Town, have a population of around 5,000, who daily preserve a lot of traditional Bhutanese customs.
